Madison Media Institute Acquires Vintage Trident Console

The Madison Media Institute’s College of Media Arts (MMI) in Madison, Wisc., has installed a Trident 80c 40-input recording console purchased from Rumbo Recorders/Metronome Studio B in Canoga Park, Calif., the studio that was once owned by Darryl Dragon of Captain & Tennille fame.

Artists who recorded on this console include Kiss, the Smashing Pumpkins, Guns N’ Roses, Fleetwood Mac, Motley Crue, John Cougar Mellencamp, Tom Petty, Stone Temple Pilots, No Doubt, The Rembrandts, Ice Cube, Keb Mo, Pink, Spinal Tap, Megadeth and Ringo Starr. Movie soundtracks that were recorded and mixed on the console include Speed, Robin Hood, Interview with the Vampire and Godzilla.

“We try to expose our students to a wide range of industry-standard equipment,” says Doug Olson, chair of the recording department at MMI. “We want the students to have the opportunity to work on a variety of top-of-the-line recording and mixing equipment.”

Madison Media Institute has been preparing students for jobs in electronic media since 1969.
