SoundField to Exhibit New Mics at NAB 2007

Noting the upsurge of interest in 5.1 audio among HD broadcasters, UK microphone manufacturer SoundField will exhibit its new range of microphones at the NAB 2007 show, April 16-19 in Las Vegas (booth #N9421).

The ST350 is a compact, portable microphone with surround capability designed for field recording. The microphone head weighs around two-thirds of a pound. Running from the mains or 9- to 18-volt power cells, the ST350 may be used with cable runs of up to 656 feet from its control unit, even when operating on batteries.

The SPS200 is recommended for location recording teams using a laptop and a single camera that need to capture audio in 5.1. It weighs about half a pound and is the first SoundField mic to be supplied without an associated control unit/decoder. A cross-platform software controller offers the ability to generate 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 and simultaneous stereo with variable width, and to continuously vary the mic’s effective polar pickup pattern and orientation without moving the mic.
