Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH recently published new information on its Website detailing the advanced optimizations for multi-processor technology in its Cubase SX3 and Nuendo 3 software products. Steinberg’s support for the latest generations of multi-processor and multi-core systems is paving the way for new levels of performance in native audio systems.

“For audio pros working with our current Cubase and Nuendo systems, this means a dramatic increase in performance for plug-ins, virtual instruments and more audio tracks,” says Claus Menke, Steinberg’s director of product management. “As the performance of these new processors scales up, we will instantly put these added CPU resources at the fingertips of our users,” he continues, adding: “These new technologies are available right now, so our customers can use their existing plug-ins and instruments without having to wait for new operating systems and compatible software.”

Company founder Karl Steinberg points to the dramatic effects the new multi-core technologies will have for audio professionals, saying that, “Together with our colleagues in the chip industry we can provide solutions that can effectively multiply CPU resources available. Thanks to our advanced multiprocessor support and processor optimization, Cubase and Nuendo users can instantly experience the performance benefit of these new processors.”

“We are pleased to have collaborated with Steinberg on these new AMD64-based systems. Steinberg’s benchmarking results show that the Dual Core AMD Opteron™ processor has the performance lead for multi-threaded Cubase and Nuendo applications,” said Charlie Boswell, director of digital media and entertainment for AMD. “Artists staking their name and reputation on their creative output can do so with confidence with Cubase/Nuendo on top of AMD64 processors because it allows them to stay in the creative moment without fear of their technology not being able to keep up.”

Steinberg's Cubase SX3 and Nuendo 3 software workstations both feature Steinberg’s Advanced Dynamic Multiprocessing technology. This allocates processing tasks dynamically to ensure the most efficient use of all available CPU resources. Steinberg's multi-core processor support harnesses the full potential not only of dual-core processors, but supports any number of physical processors or processor cores, allocating processing tasks dynamically between them.
