Malibu, CA (June 9, 2015)—Vintage King Audio recently co-sponsored a listening session for composers, engineers and musicians at Woodshed Recording in Malibu, CA, owned by scoring composer and producer Richard Gibbs.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to the music community,” commented VK sales rep Chris Bolitho, “we decided to take our Vintage King LA working showroom concept out to Richard’s great studio in Malibu to showcase these top monitors in a fine listening environment, with participants able to listen to their favorite music through each of the speakers in a high-performance signal chain.”
The session featured monitor speakers from Barefoot Sound MicroMain 27 and MiniMain 12, ATC SCM45A, Augspurger Duo8, Guzauski-Swist GS-31, and PMC IB2S.
The owner of Woodshed Recording, Richard Gibbs, has written the scores for more than 60 feature films and various television series, including Battlestar Galactica, the Simpsons, Dr. Dolittle, Say Anything, and Queen of the Damned. In a former life, he was the keyboardist for the seminal L.A. band Oingo Boingo and worked extensively as a session player and arranger for artists such as Tom Waits, Aretha Franklin, Robert Palmer, and War. He has also served as record producer for Eisley, Korn, and Richard Page, amongst others.
Woodshed Recording provides a unique creative environment, with a flexible wall system and fluid control system overlooking the Pacific through a dozen French doors and windows. Replete with a 65-in. rolling video monitor, 5.1 speaker system, and writing rig, the studio is also a film scoring and ADR facility.
Coldplay, U2, Barbra Streisand, Kanye West and others have used the facility, and some have opted to take over the entire 1.5 acre property, with its separate two-story, four-bedroom house, organic gardens, pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, and private beach rights.
