In a unique demonstration of the dynamic sound and reliability of the JBL LSR6300 Series, engineer/producer Jeff Wolpert opened the doors to his new project studio, Kick Audio, in Toronto, Canada. The studio has been outfitted with a 5.1 surround sound system comprised of JBL LSR6300 monitors.

A winner of four Juno awards, Wolpert has worked with renowned recording artists Anne Murray, Cowboy Junkies and recently Great Big Sea. Of his four Juno awards, three were for Engineer of the Year, which were earned through his work with Loreena McKennitt and Holly Cole.

Upon completing construction of Kick Audio, Wolpert dubbed it “the world’s largest project studio.” The acoustically treated space measures 32×80 feet with a 14-foot-high ceiling and two isolation rooms.

According to Wolpert, his goal in establishing Kick Audio was to have the relaxed feel of a project studio without any sacrifices in quality or space. “The advent of the home studio has allowed many of my clients to reduce recording costs, seemingly increasing their mixing and mastering budgets,” Wolpert said. “The results, while generally very good, are often compromised by the quality of the acoustics in the typical home recording environment. It should then be said that most instruments [strings, woodwinds, brass, piano, drums, guitars, etc.] sound and feel better in a bigger space. Unfortunately, space is the one thing most personal project studios lack.”?
In keeping with his philosophy of maintaining a professional-quality setup, Wolpert opted for the JBL LSR6300 Series as his studio monitor of choice. “I have always been a two-way monitor fan, and these have great imaging, and they’re a little more honest-sounding than other monitors,” he said. “I couldn’t find another monitor of such tremendous quality even close in price.”
