Bob Ludwig Develops Platinum Panels for 131st AES Convention

AES Platinum Mastering Panel Moderator Bob Ludwig

Gateway Mastering & DVD founder Bob Ludwig (pictured), whose Grammy Award-winning credits include Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, Dire Straights, and many more, has developed the 131st AES Convention Platinum Mastering Panels. Ludwig’s 131st AES Convention Platinum event will break new ground with its premise, “You Questions, We Have Answers.”

The panel will address the latest trends and techniques in mastering, the state of the record industry, and declining opportunities for learning through apprenticeship. The panel will also take questions from the audience.

The panelists are Adam Ayan of Gateway Mastering & DVD in Portland, Maine; Chris Gehringer of Sterling Sound in New York City; Scott Hull of Masterdisk in New York City; Darcy Proper of Wisseloord Studios in The Netherlands; and Barak Moffitt, the executive vice president of EMI Label Group (Capitol Studios), who will provide the record-label perspective on today’s mastering process.

This panel will include a demo and discussion of Apple’s new iTunes Producer program. Recently introduced to optimize the sound quality of AAC files for iTunes, this 24-bit/96kHz program could be an important innovation for downloaded music.

“Bob Ludwig’s Platinum Panels have always been among the best attended and most widely discussed sessions at every AES Convention,” says Convention Chair Jim Anderson. “This year’s presentation promises to be particularly eventful.”

The 131st Audio Engineering Society Convention will be held in the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City from Thursday, October 20, through Sunday, October 23, 2011.
