Ascent Media Management Services Outfits Rooms With JBL

Ascent Media Management Services in Burbank, Calif., has outfitted its new digital media data center with JBL LSR6300 Series studio monitors. Three audio rooms—one large Telecine/DI suite and two large nonlinear editing suites—are equipped with the monitors.

In the Telecine/DI/digital source mastering suite, Ascent used a combination of LSR6300 Series studio monitors and JBL cinema loudspeakers to create a hybrid system that provides the feel of large theatrical spaces. Because digital cinema uses a matte screen, Ascent opted to use the LSR6332 on each side and above the screen for the front array. Additionally, a pair of LSR6312 subwoofers was installed below the screen. At the back of the suite, JBL 8330A three-way cinema surround speakers give the room a big, theater-type atmosphere.

In the audio bays and nonlinear editing suites, Ascent uses JBL LSR6328P studio monitors for full surround monitoring. In the rooms where space is limited, LSR6325P monitors are used with each room containing LSR6312P subwoofers.

The JBL loudspeakers serve as reference monitors for all of the digital media data center’s critical-listening environments. “We chose JBL speakers because the JBL LSR6300 Series incorporates patented transducer technologies and features that minimize detrimental effect on response caused by the acoustic properties in any-sized control room. The result is more accurate performances at the mix position for our talent,” says Doug Mountain, Ascent’s director of media operations.
