Many of those paths are created dynamically, and there may be no engineer listening at any individual point along the way. Audio observability extends monitoring into that environment by continuously examining audio and the information associated with it. Rather than relying solely on manual checks, systems can automatically verify attributes such as format, signal health, metadata, compliance, and speech intelligibility across large numbers of audio flows.
The concept is becoming increasingly important as media organizations move toward larger and more complex IP-based distributed, cloud-based, and dynamically orchestrated production and delivery environments. Add to that MXL, multiple codecs, the variety of essence containers in which audio is wrapped, and the resulting complexity does not scale for human monitoring.
