Euphonix announced at the recent AES tradeshow in New York (October 7-10) that its MC and System 5-MC (pictured) controllers is currently shipping to clients with V. 1.0 software. Steinberg’s Nuendo 3.1, which was released on Sept 5, and Merging’s Pyramix 5, with the OASIS option, also fully supports the EuCon protocol to enable tight control by the MC and System 5-MC over high-speed Ethernet.
MC and System 5-MC V. 1.0 software also includes HUI control for applications such as Pro Tools. Other applications, such as Final Cut Pro HD, Logic Pro, Soundtrack Pro and Digital Performer can be controlled via the Mackie Control protocol. The MC and System 5-MC have the ability of the control surfaces to switch between different applications and multiple workstations; an operator can switch from working in Nuendo to Pyramix to Pro Tools, or to a video editing application such as Final Cut Pro.
Euphonix chief technology officer Martin Kloiber has spent the past two years driving these new products, “The MC and System 5-MC represent a brand new way of working with professional software applications. We have deliberately designed these controllers to handle both audio and video applications—in fact they will enhance operation with any application and give the operator real tactile controls such as faders, programmable switches and knobs to bring back the ‘feel’ that was once an integral part of recording, editing and mixing audio and video.”
Euphonix executive vice president world wide sales Russell Waite is already seeing results “We have sold over 20 units so far around the world which underlines the appeal of our approach. We are already signing on new value added resellers for the MC and System 5-MC to help provide local sales and support and to offer packaged systems to our customers. In all respects we are off to a very strong start.”
