MediaTech Institute, with locations in Austin, Dallas and Houston, now offers 4-week programs that teach the art and techniques of “turntablism,” in which a DJ plays a turntable like an instrument, including scratching, creating sound collages and beat juggling. Classes are taught using the latest turntable models, mixing boards and P.A.s available.
“This is not a DJ class where people just play records,” says MediaTech Institute Director Rob Fedson. “These turntablists are increasingly collaborating with other musicians, and the genre will continue to evolve at a rapid pace.”
The courses will teach specific turntable movements and terms, including baby, forward, rub, stab/chop, chirp, scribble and tear.
