A range of Audio Technica (NAB Booth #N3322) mics are being used to capture WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour, a live-audience, internationally syndicated radio show broadcast on 444 radio stations in 28 countries around the world. In addition, A-T microphones and wireless systems are used by Sundance Media Group’s VASST (video, audio, surround, streaming, training), a multifaceted creative endeavor and training program based in the mountains of Utah.

WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour, produced at the Kentucky Theatre in Lexington, Kentucky, is hosted by folksinger, songwriter, performer and author Michael Johnathon, and has an estimated one million listeners globally each week. Performances by artists from Roger McGuinn and the Blind Boys of Alabama to up-and-coming stars fill the WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour.

Johnathon uses Audio-Technica’s AE6100 hypercardioid dynamic mic for nearly every vocalist on the show. Technical director/chief engineer Kevin Johnson notes that other A-T mics used on the show include: AT4033 (mainly in an X-Y configuration on bluegrass artists), 4041 (acoustic instruments), 4047 (vocals), AE6100, AE2500 (drums, upright bass), PRO 35ax (horn, fiddle) and ATM25 (drums).

A huge archive page of past shows is available online at www.woodsongs.com.

Under the guidance of composer/producer Douglas Spotted Eagle — whose work in filmmaking and with Native American music has earned him Grammy, Emmy, DuPont, Peabody and Telly Awards — Sundance Media Group’s VASST division uses DVDs to teach videographers the essentials of audio-for-picture, incorporating microphones and wireless systems from Audio-Technica.

VASST’s instruction makes use of a wide array of key A-T products, including the U100 camera-mounted wireless microphone system, AT897 short shotgun mic, AT899 0.5 mm subminiature omni lavalier mic, AT3060 phantom powered large-diaphragm tube condenser mic, and an assortment of Artist Elite microphones.

The latest instructional DVD available from Douglas Spotted Eagle and VASST is Now Hear This: Superior Sound for Digital Video and Beyond. For more information, please visit www.vasst.com.
